A Brief Introduction of the Harmonic Reducer Oil Leakage Problem and Solutions

sales@reachmachinery.com

Harmonic reducers can experience the issue of oil leakage from the bearing end cap during operation. Today, we will analyze the reasons for oil leakage from the bearing end cap of harmonic reducers and discuss the corresponding solutions.

Reasons for oil leakage from the bearing end cap of harmonic reducers:

The main reasons for oil leakage from the bearing end cap include excessive clearance between the end cap and the housing, lack of sealing components or damaged seals in the inner bore of the end cap for the input or output shaft, blockage of the vent plug, and excessive oil level.

Solutions for oil leakage from the bearing end cap of harmonic reducers:

For the end cap, in addition to ensuring the proper clearance between the end cap and the housing mating surface, sealing elements and oil drainage plates should be added to the end cap.

Attach a drainage plate to the inner side of the bearing, close to the housing wall, to direct the oil splashed onto the drainage plate into the oil sump.

The range of rotation for the drainage plate within the bearing can be significant. To further prevent leakage, felt sealing rings can be added inside the end cap. Additionally, drain holes, similar to those on the felt ring, can be created on the end cap. Even if oil leaks into the felt ring, the centrifugal and centripetal forces can drain it into the housing through the drain holes, effectively cutting off the leakage path.

Harmonic reducers are equipped with vents. Blocking the vent hole can cause an increase in temperature, expansion of gases, and an increase in pressure, exacerbating oil leakage. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the vent hole remains unblocked, allowing for pressure balance inside and outside the reduction box and effectively preventing leakage.

Increased oil resistance can decrease the efficiency of the mechanism. Therefore, it is important to use an appropriate amount of lubricating oil. The depth of gear immersion in the oil should not exceed the height of the gear tooth, as intense agitation of the oil can lead to increased temperature and accelerated leakage.
